Car update
Aug. 3rd, 2016 11:38 pmSo I think I mentioned that I took my car to the mechanic early in the summer to get a list of things to repair before I turn it over to D (who is showing very little interest in learning to drive, so it's no rush). The main things were the valve cover gasket (to try to deal with the oil leak), and the radiator and its hoses, along with an air intake boot thing. Yesterday I took it in to get the radiator and the boot replaced, and today I was to pick it up. However, Bob the-guy-I-talk-to-on-the-phone told me that the car was going through far too much oil, and when they add oil it starts dripping right away, so they want to diagnose it in the morning. Blah.
Possibly it's "just a switch" or something, but when I look online I see things like "blown head gasket" or "cracked engine block," neither of which would probably be worth doing. So I'm comforting myself with thoughts of going out and buying a brand new car, which I've never done, probably sticking with the Camry, and hopefully getting a lovely blue shade. The current Camry blue is called "Parisian midnight pearl," which is both evocative and amusing. I did want a reliable car for D, though, and I'm fond of my current car, flaws notwithstanding. We shall see.
