Verily, a New Hope (and an old car)
Jan. 27th, 2016 11:34 pmThis evening, J. and I did a silly fun thing to amuse ourselves (and hopefully D, whom we obliged to be our audience) – we “performed” the first three scenes from William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope. That is, we read the parts with “musical” accompaniment. I came up with a bit of plucked guitar for the main Star Wars theme (I do not play guitar, and one string was broken anyway), and J. played Leia’s Theme on his flute, and we “dum dum da dummed” the Darth Vader theme. Since I’d missed out on last night’s theater-plus-string-quartet event, this was my best approximation.
My poor old car, which runs fine engine-wise, is falling apart, even while I’m trying to keep it functioning for D’s eventual use. Today when I was downtown to return some library books, the driver’s side door refused to open with the key. The passenger side door had been this way for some time, and the driver’s side door was sticky, but I didn’t think it was this bad. The key did open the truck, and I got out some WD-40, but it didn’t help. I had to call AAA to jimmy open the door, which involved waiting half an hour, but it wasn’t raining, and I had a book in my handbag. J. came and kept me company for half of the wait. When I got home I put masking tape over the locks so I won’t accidentally lock it again. I think I’m supposed to take it to a dealer to get the doors “rekeyed” or something? Or can a locksmith do it, I wonder? The AAA guy wasn’t sure. It’s not a fancy key, it’s just mechanical.
