Youth Symphony (!)
Dec. 9th, 2015 10:23 pmTonight was the Youth Symphony performance: selections from Carmen, then a clarinet solo, then the featured violin soloist accompanied by the symphony for the first movement of the Mendelssohn concerto, then the last movement of the New World Symphony. They play everything with the full, unadapted score, unlike the Junior Orchestra, which plays with a modified score. Very, very impressive – and nice that they’d chosen pieces that were already among my favorites. It’s amazing to me to be able to stand next to a high school student, for example the violinist who performed the Mendelssohn, and realize that she has this artistry and skill in her.
D. stayed home, having had that minor foot surgery today, but I’m planning to have him watch the DVD of the performance during winter break. (I am so looking forward to his chance to be in the Youth Symphony next year!)
Okay, now back to my cleaning for J’s birthday party...
