Scenes from a cozy Wednesday
Dec. 2nd, 2015 11:07 pmToday I attended G’s lab, where he did a presentation on “charisma in leadership,” drawing on a paper by Spencer (1973), who proposed two dimensions: inspiring awe, which comes from displaying mastery over the situation (esp. if it’s chaotic), and inspiring enthusiasm, which comes from embodying the followers’ ideals.
Then J. and I had dinner at McMenamin’s, which was cozy with the dark and rain outside. Very comfortable! I had cheddar-broccoli soup and a burger, and he had a sort of baked macaroni dish with Cajun-seasoned chicken and bleu cheese. We came up with the guest list for his birthday party, then I came home and FB-messaged most of them with the invitation link. I’ll have to print and mail a copy for my sister.
D. works up a mighty sleep deficit with the school day starting at 7:10 a.m., and although this was his afternoon to spend with his dad and go out for Hawaiian teriyaki chicken, he ended up napping the entire time! So when I got home he needed dinner. I then watched J. play Magic online while D. practiced the saxophone, then I came home and sat here comfortably on the couch and used my computer while he practiced the clarinet (which is less loud).
