If J’s dad weren’t allergic to cats, I could picture us adopting one of the beautiful black kittens we saw today, to live at his house. Neighbors Hiram and Sandi, who don’t seem to believe in cat birth control*, had a litter of 10 kittens who've been greatly admired by all who see them. I don’t know if they’ve started giving them away yet; we only saw two black ones today. A few weeks ago, a young woman on a walk with her husband was trying to coax a white one with big black smudges on its face to come to her. She told me it was the one thing she wanted in life.
* That's where we got Lillian. Kittens are a regular feature of their yard, but never a litter so big before.
