There’s this Mexican restaurant nearby, and J. and I eat there maybe twice a month, and they have this delicious stew called “molcajete.” Beef, chicken, peppers, onions, grated cheese, and a tomato-based sauce. You spoon a bit of it onto a corn tortilla, add a bit of avocado and maybe some rice, roll it up, and try to eat it before the sauce has dribbled onto your hands too much. It is really delicious in the winter, and guess what? In summer too.

I had the self-discipline to eat only half of it in the restaurant, so I can have at least two molcajete lunches. The self-discipline was especially challenging since we got to the restaurant nearly two hours late. (R. had forgotten to pick D. up at 6:30 p.m., even though he’s been picking him up then on Saturdays for four years now; he wasn’t answering the phone; finally around 8 p.m. I ended up stopping by his house and asking if he was okay. He came and got D. soon after that, but dinner was pretty late by that point.)
