Whew, done.

Finally the three weeks with four concerts and three auditions has ended. D’s congestion eased up enough for him to do his Youth Symphony audition today. He sure sounded good warming up! He’s focused on the flaws, of course – he squeaked the high D in his minor scale (which was supposed to show off his ability to do that high note), and he slurred a few notes in his main audition piece while keeping the tempo. He didn’t mention any actual mistakes made in the music, though, and the fast part is fairly tricky. He also thinks he nailed the sight-reading test. So it’s possible that he’ll be chosen to fill one of the two openings, out of the nine contenders; otherwise he’ll stay in the Junior Orchestra. They’ll announce their decisions by the 21st.

Meanwhile, he still has five days of school, including one more day to finish up a long fairy tale he’s writing to summarize The Color Purple. Me, I’m just floating along until I shake off this cold.
