J. has a little trickling “water feature” in his yard, and he’s only had the power on when we specifically wanted to look at the thing. A mistake, it turns out, as it’s been breeding mosquitos, which we otherwise don’t really have in the neighborhood. We bought some BT treatment, but we’re also investigating the option he’s found online of keeping minnows or goldfish in the tiny “pond.” Apparently one can purchase minnows somewhere in units of 10? And they love to eat the larvae. Personally, I’m concerned that this experiment would teach the neighborhood raccoons that J’s yard is a good place for a snack. We’ll see. I don’t imagine that one can just buy minnows at the neighborhood pet store, either, but we didn’t have time to check there today.
