Emily Carr
Dec. 8th, 2013 02:37 pmI’m happy today that I learned about a new-to-me-yet-famous* PNW artist, Emily Carr, thanks to a “you should visit Vancouver (B.C.)” article in today’s Sunday paper. She was a native of British Columbia (1871-1945) and has an art university named for her.

* This isn’t saying much. When I gave it some thought, the only other famous PNW artists I could come up with were Bill Reid, the Haida sculptor, and, um, our local Maude Kerns, as in the Maude Kerns Art Center near my office. I can’t even remember the name of the Oregon painter who has a section in the university art museum, unless it’s Morris Graves. Well, okay, it is.
Update: And there are current PNW artists I know of, for example, Jerry Ross, who was friends with my mom and step-dad. Hm, this website has a portrait of his wife, whom I’ve also met, going for $30,000... But I feel so ignorant.
