This afternoon I left my office and headed down the stairs, and after I’d passed the doorway from the floor below, someone else came out to go down the stairs too. A moment later, this person started to sing that old early 60’s song... “There is someone... walking behind you...”
Before he could get to the next line, “Turn around... Look at me...” I did so, and it was G, my former advisor. He does have an office right below mine at ORI. And he does like to sing. His undergraduates get to hear “ANOVA Man,” which has the same tune as the Beatles’ “Nowhere Man.” Still, it was a bit disconcerting.
D. is practicing his Magic deck for tomorrow’s big tournament, versus some older decks of J’s. It’s an all-day affair at the Hilton downtown. J’s borrowing a deck from someone else and won’t get it ’til tomorrow, so he’ll be playing in the tournament without practicing, but he’s not particularly interested in the standard format anyway. The winner gets a trip to Ireland! D’s aspiration is to finish in the Top 8 to get the fancy event playmat.
