Tonight was a special edition of the monthly Eugene “art walk,” showing art on the UO campus, and after work, J. and I walked over to the art museum. First there was swordplay on the lawn, a surprise event advertising an upcoming play based on Shakespeare’s sonnets. Then, inside for the first big exhibit: a whole wall of “hair”! It was made of a bazillion long strands of lots of types of wire, and there was poetry above, below, and sort of woven in, and some complementary figures on the opposite wall. The next room had another big work done by the same artist based on the writings of an American saint-nun. There was also a room with original Peanuts strips from the history of the comic, but then we were ushered over to the architecture and art school building for presentations by students. At that point, J. was tired and hungry, so we left the tour and walked back to his car, via the duck pond and the urban farm, and we went and got a nice dinner. Then he drove back here while I rejoined the art walk at the natural history museum, where they had some photos of coastal communities and some big photos from the Hubble, many of which would be pretty cool to have in one’s home.

The dean of the school of architecture and allied arts was very friendly and chatted with me numerous times. Surprising fact – she and the woman who heads the art museum were born in the same hospital... in Montreal.
