A syndicated column in our local newspaper explains that one way to have more energy is to grow more mitochondria, the “power plants” of our cells.

Five ways to do this:
  • Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. This can boost your mitochondria by up to 50%.
  • Eat more foods rich in quercetin. The article says this is found in apples, berries (esp. cranberries), broccoli, kale, and onions. Also it’s in black and green tea, red grapes, citrus fruit, tomatoes (esp. organically grown), and leafy green vegetables in general.
  • Get enough B vitamins. They suggest splitting a multivitamin into morning and evening doses, to keep your levels stable.
  • Trim your daily calories, especially by never eating a big meal.
  • Eat more foods rich in resveratrol, such as red wine, red grapes and red grape juice, blueberries, and peanuts.

(This is the same column that listed nutrients for a strong immune system last year.)
