Nov. 30th, 2010 10:19 pmMy dissertation proposal is nearly done; I just need to write a bit more in one section. In our department, the way we do it is that we write the entire background and methods sections, with details on all the analyses we plan to run, then we get approval from our committee before we start collecting data. This is a safeguard against them complaining during the defense that we didn’t run enough of the types of analyses they’d have liked. Right now the main text is 55 pages long (1.5 spacing), and I have four appendices that add another 29 pages, and five pages of references.
I’m feeling a little sorry for the philosopher on my committee, since he’s used to proposals topping out at 12 pages.
I went to a parents’ meeting at D’s school, and afterwards stood in the rain chatting with a friend for a full half hour. Didn’t notice ’til I got home that I was pretty well soaked. I changed my clothes and drank hot tea, but two hours later am still feeling chilled...
