Today at the library I started collecting "sun books" for this summer's outdoor reading. Last year I read everything on my list except the Argonautica and The First Fossil Hunters, and I even added two or three more books about India. So far for this year I have Persian Pictures by Gertrude Bell and Road Through Kurdistan by A.M. Hamilton. First, though, I need to finish Robin Horton's book, which is on the coolest topic ever, the comparative sociology of ideas. I remember why I like it so much, and now I want to reread the other one too. I do wish he would write more of them, but I suppose he is long retired by now.

Today it was finally warm enough for me to have both lawnchairs set up for reading, one in the sun and one in the shade. The newer chair won't last long, though - even minor shifts of my weight caused plastic fibers to tear. I felt like a polar bear balancing on thin ice, the way I had to distribute my weight so carefully.
