I've discovered that I have a rather annoying habit. I tend to read with a particular project in mind, and then to retain whatever's relevant to the project - which is perfectly normal, I'm sure - but the flip side is that I'm not retaining the parts that aren't useful, and the bad habit is that I'm not taking any notes to jog my memory later (since it's much more appealing to move on to the next book). Thus I cannot now remember what it was I didn't like about Robert Solomon's Not Passion's Slave (about emotions), other than it had something to do with Sartre. Also, I know that the summer before D. came along I read books by Levinas, Rosenzweig, and Dilthey, but at this point I have no clue what they were about or what I thought. D'oh!
Thus I'm adding a private LJ to get myself to write down at least some not-immediately-useful impressions of things I've read. I hope it helps!
