Theory; Bootsie
Feb. 12th, 2007 09:10 pmWe started our next 5-week session of Issues class today, with Bertram, who appears to be assigning us about twice as much work as we had last time, but he's so interesting and such a rigorous thinker that I'm hoping it will be fun. Today's lecture was on the philosophy of science as it applies to social psychology. Afterwards, I told him I want to talk him into doing a class on "theory," since theory is really my thing, and research psychologists seem way more interested in methods, with only the most cursory attention to theory. He says he's long wanted to but hasn't been able to fit it in yet. Thus I'm going to pester him. If it can be called "pestering" to ask someone once or twice a year if they've figured out how to do something they want to do.
D. and I have signed up to take care of my boss H's aging cat Bootsie on Saturday and Sunday (H. and his wife are going to be out of town about a week), and D. looked so serious as the various responsibilities were explained to him - it was really cute.
