Yes, a few minutes ago when I submitted my short paper on factors that influence how much readers will identify with characters in books, I officially finished the first half of my first year of grad school. It should be easier from now on, for several reasons, but mostly because yesterday we also submitted our grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health, and I won't have to think about it again until the summer! Also, I'm more or less done with the lit review for my first-year project, and I can move along to designing my surveys and getting them up and running.
I went to a talk at noon by Silje W., who is visiting ORI for three months. She's interesting and well-informed about theory; she had some good contributions to make in our meeting on Wednesday too.
As for R's computer: I've tried another cable, to no effect. Rather than haul my computer (and monitor and keyboard and mouse) out there to test the router, we're going to see if we can find someone with a laptop and ethernet card to come over.
