This evening, DH and Molly came over to watch the Holiday Bowl with us. Oregon (ranked #6 but without its usual QB) took on Oklahoma. Pretty slow game, 'til near the end. Oregon started off with some fancy moves, including a fake punt, and for quite a while the score was Ducks 7, Sooners 3. (I'd say UO and OU, but that could confuse.) Then for quite a while the score was Sooners 17, Ducks 7, and it was getting rather boring. With just 2-3 minutes to go, though, the score was Oklahoma 17, Oregon 14, with Oregon on the Oklahoma 20 with a first down, so we were looking at a tied game, at worst... until our #3 QB threw an interception. Aargh. Then Oklahoma was penalized for celebrating, two plays in a row, bringing them awfully close to the goal line, and if they'd fumbled it, Oregon could still have won.
That did not happen.
We split a bag of Doritos, a large peperoni pizza, and a bottle of Chimay Belgian ale. I'd drunk an ounce of it and was rather drowsy thereafter, so my theory was that that's what had happened at the half: The Oregon players had each drunk an ounce of Belgian ale and gotten drowsy. (No?)
Really, though, the idea of Oklahoma, not Oregon, taking home that humpback whale trophy is just too incongruous.
Next morning correction: That was 33 seconds, not 2-3 min, to go.
Now it's on to the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, whatever that is. ;)
