At least it's over?
Nov. 30th, 2005 04:18 pmBleh. So this afternoon I took the GRE. My scores are good enough for their purposes, I suppose, but the quantitative is lower than what I'd gotten on all the (many, many) practice tests I did.
See, they have this thing called "adaptive testing," where your results on the first questions determine how difficult the subsequent ones will be (and your score is based on the difficulty level as well as right/wrong). I know all about this; I've even written about the underlying statistical technique (item response theory). So when I wasn't sure about the answer to the second question, and ended up "just picking one" rather than continuing to stare at it as the clock ticked on, I was pretty concerned about the implications. And, yes, every question thereafter in the section was easier than the practice questions I'd been preparing with. I'd been tracked.
Grr.
Hard to shift gears now. R. is going to get me some hot and sour soup for dinner, which should help my cold symptoms.
I mean, I could pay $115 and put myself through it all again, but what's the point? Maybe I should just appreciate having it be "done."
Time to go watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the sixth day in a row.
