I was in the middle of my ASLE-related correspondence when I came upon these gems by Abel Alves, the scholar who presented the talk on mead. Now I'm all sidetracked!

Can We Be Awe-Inspired without Thinking Hierarchically?, a paper on the forms of awe engendered by human relationships with nature and "whether religion can be awe-inspiring without reifying and deifying social hierarchies."

Food and Social Control, a proposed course syllabus from primates to early agriculture and the development of cities and social hierarchies to manage grain surpluses, gender issues like medieval fasting, food as imperial tool, food as art, and the industrial revolution and agribusiness.
