Super Atomic
Jun. 26th, 2005 09:16 pmI'd imagined that while
fractal9091 was in Wisconsin, I would use my time oh so constructively, getting writing projects done, etc., but is that happening? Well, not really. First, I had no idea that ASLE would take up the evenings like it did. And now I'm so tired from trying to get caught up on cleaning and mowing and stuff that I'm pretty out of it by nighttime!
Oh, hey, last night I saw something pretty fun on TV! B's friend's wife has her own cable show, Super Atomic TV, which she hosts under the name "Ann Simone." The cable guide describes it as "classic sci-fi and rubber monster B movies." Last night I watched it. Very, very cool. I would not have recognized her, but she's got a great look for it. Last night, she showed First Spaceship on Venus, a 1959 East German movie with really neat sets and stuff, very creative and different from the American movies of that era. I think it's on again on Friday, and I'm going to tape it. "Ann Simone's" staff adds amusing comments in the corner (the movie itself is letterboxed), and one alerts us to an upcoming "meteor shower" that definitely looks like they're just flinging popcorn at the space ship. Yup.
Here's someone else's blog description of the movie, Best Commie Venus Movie Ever, complete with photos, though they didn't include the fist-sized Venusian "spiders" that bounce around in mid-air. And here's a picture of the spaceship, the Cosmostrator:
