J-friends in Maine
Jul. 2nd, 2004 09:04 pmThe J-friends (JVW, JM,
keyboard_monkey, and JA) have gone to Maine en masse for JA's wedding to his sweetie, Kristen, an event alluded to previously, with pictures, in this journal. Not being one of the lucky guests myself, I'm looking at some facts and maps of Bangor on-line this evening, and I also intend to read Mollie Peer over the course of the weekend. It's the second in a recent series by Van Reid and is more properly entitled, Mollie Peer, or, The Underground Adventures of the Moosepath League, being set in turn-of-the-century Portland, Maine. (And other charming and curiously eccentric locations as well, if it's like the first and third in the series, which I've already read.) Each of the three original books has an obvious hero or heroine, as named in the title (the other two being Cordelia Underwood, a young lady, and Daniel Plainway, an attorney approaching middle years), and two other heroes who are common to the whole series: Mister Tobias Walton, of Portland, a true gentleman, who maintains serenity and humor in the most extraordinary situations, and his quick-thinking assistant and friend, Sundry Moss. I have been wanting to ask JA if Kristen's family has been in Maine long enough that fictional events of a hundred years ago would interest her.
Literature aside, my best wishes for JA and Kristen and their happy lives together. I am looking forward to seeing J's pictures on Monday, when he returns. And if there are as many as I hope he'll take, I'm looking forward to seeing them on Tuesday as well.
