I have a Eugene hippie story to share, but first, some context. Yesterday I went to the Holiday Market again, as it was authors and artists day and I wanted to stock up on more books by Mary E. Lowd and others. I also bought a bunch from S, including a circular pin, not quite 3" across, with this image:

Then in the evening I went to the symphony, where we heard a very creative work by Gabriella Smith ("Field Notes"), two choral pieces, and then Beethoven's Ninth, which has a choral component. I usually park by the library and walk the five blocks through downtown to the concert hall, and downtown Eugene on a Saturday night is a pretty lively place, with lots of bars with loud music and various folks hanging around on the sidewalk, some of whom appear to live there.

Anyway, so I'd parked and was walking to the concert, around 6 pm. Instead of a jacket I was wearing a flowing unbuttoned black blouse with grey stitching of Chinese dragons, and I had affixed S's circular pin to the upper left front of the blouse. And as I walked along, an old guy on a bicycle with a white flowing beard and hair pulled up near me and addressed me.

Old hippie guy: Excuse me, ma'am, are you part of the police?

Me: Am I part of the police?

OHG: Your badge...

Me (smoothing out my blouse so he could see it better): It's a little girl...

OHG: Oh, okay.

And off he went.

Today I went to a concert too, by the Oregon Bach Collegium, but I wasn't feeling well and wished I were home in bed instead. When the first set concluded with one of my favorite carols ("Gaudete"), I took that as a sign and headed home with my (literally) happy music in my head.
