Day 970: Wintery Tuesday

It's a whole lot like winter right now, except that the highs ae in the low 50s and in the winter I suppose it's more like the upper 40s. Nights are cold - just below freezing.

It was sunny today, though, and I did a nice 36-minute walk to the post office and back, which is good exercise because there's a steep hill involved - a gentle slope to the top from this side, then a sharper drop on the other. This time I came back by the same route, so I got the most exercise. I realized that that route also has the psychological advantage that once you're at the top, it's all downhill from there. The gentler route through the park ends with some uphill bits.

I skipped what could have been an interesting talk on campus about ecological awareness in ancient China - too many other things to get done. I also ended up spending a fair amount of time helping (very tired) J. figure out how to get back to the airport from his Dragonsteel con. It was easy once D. told me how they'd done it - Salt Lake City has a nice light rail line, so I just researched the closest station and then gave J. directions online then on the phone. He's home and snug in his bed now. He has tomorrow off too.

How great you got a nice walk in! We have had highs of right under 40 so Zilly and I have only gotten out a few times in the last week.

It was a good afternoon for a walk, really. I was glad the school was available to walk through (sometimes its gate is closed), because if I'd had to stay on the sidewalk I would have gotten to an area where it's covered with needles and sloped - not the safest.

Pine needles get so slippery when they get wet and along with the slope, right!
