Day 966: Fun Friday

eve_primeI had multiple reasons for submitting my grant proposal a week early. I wanted to get back to my writing, I didn't want it hanging over me on my birthday, and I wanted to be able to have a self-indulgent, cozy vacation-at-home of my own while J and D went off to a big Magic event for the long weekend.
Their big thing is in Salt Lake City, an event for which the headline attractions were the famous Magic player LSV and the more widely famous fantasy author Brandon Sanderson. LSV was actually a no-show (ha), but Brandon was definitely there, and he'll have his own con on Monday and Tuesday, which is why J. is staying an extra day. D. will fly home with DG, JC, and one of DG's friends NJ on Monday. J's met Brandon several times before, although the last time was quite a few years ago, and Brandon once introduced him to Harriet McDougal (Mrs. Robert Jordan) as "my friend J-----"!
Since they had to get up at 3:30 am and I've been going to bed around 3 am, I just stayed up a bit extra to see them off. J had only slept two and a half hours and spent the whole day that way. I would have been miserable. I slept just fine, then after I got up I had a nice visit from my friend Z. Then I took Jean-Luc to the vet for a recheck on his tiny cataracts and his fatness. His eyes were no different, and he'd lost three-tenths of a pound. Good!
J. had set me up with his Discord group so that I could watch the Friday movie in his absence, and this time it was the Disney cartoon Hercules, which I hadn't seen before. It made me hungry for Greek food so I went out and bought some olives and tapenade and dolmas and hummus.
At that point, J. was online to say good night. He'd gotten to talk with Brandon!
