1. Today I was interviewed by a journalist! We talked for nearly an hour - she's interested in my main research topic (meta-narratives) and how it relates to current U.S. politics. I think she'd seen my op-ed in Scientific American online, which was almost two years ago. She's working on a freelance piece - could be exciting!

2. There's a local bakery that sells its products at the Market of Choice, and their whole wheat sourdough tastes very much like my own homemade bread, so I save myself a lot of effort and buy theirs instead. But yesterday it was out of stock. Another local bakery also had whole wheat sourdough, though, so I bought a loaf of that.

Today when I was making breakfast, I got out that new loaf and literally thought to myself, "There's no risk in trying a different bread - and then I'll be able to expand my bread-purchasing options for the future!" So I toasted a slice and ate it. YUCK. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK. It was horrible. It wasn't immediately horrible, but by the time I'd eaten the whole slice I could tell that something was very wrong with this bread. I read the ingredients - basically just wheat products, sea salt, and yeast - and then remembered back to when my friends Trisha, Tammy, and I were in junior high school and put too much salt in our spaghetti sauce. If you put too much salt in something, it goes way past tasting salty to just having a nasty chemical flavor that stays in your mouth all day. I'm pretty sure that's what it was, because hours later my lips started tasting salty. I will never, ever buy bread from that company again. YUCK.

3. D. says that today S. passed her driver's license exam! I knew she'd taken driver's ed in summer 2021, but I hadn't heard anything more on that topic. She doesn't have a car to drive so I don't think it will change their lives much for now, but maybe when she does have a car, she can help D. practice? He hasn't practiced driving for more than a year.
