Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman. My friend T picked this as light reading for this month's book club, but it's not, exactly. Or rather - it's the first-person story of a socially and emotionally isolated woman with an utterly horrific past. Given that the reader accepts the reality of this past, the writing style is very entertaining. However, when I started reading the book I found that after a while, I couldn't just keep going. I had to set it aside and sleep on it. Once I'd done that, I was able to enjoy it. Later in the book, there was another point where I had to set it aside, but this time, only for an hour or so. Then I picked it up and read to the end. But, yikes.

The blurbs on the cover and the back of the book about how wildly hilarious it is are thus kind of disturbing.
