Christmas Eve

The first part of the day was focused on getting food for today's supper and tomorrow's lunch: smoked salmon, a fancy chicken, tapenade, Metropol baguette, deli salads, and sparkling juices, including a new Martinelli's flavor, apple-marionberry! B. came down from Portland on an Amtrak bus, and in the late afternoon we started opening our presents.

Cool gifts, a list for my reference
From R:
The Most Beautiful Villages of Scotland photo book
The Planets by Dava Sobel
Terry Jones' Medieval Lives book, companion to the TV series
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Classic Popeye cartoons DVD (cartoons from the 1930s)
The Legend of Suram Fortress and Ashik Kerib DVD
the "Candamir: The First Settlers" game, in the Catan series
a fancy audio system for my computer
From B:
Teach Yourself Irish Grammar
From D:
nice picture frame
big tree ornament
drawing with hearts and smiles
Parker Kindergarten Cookbook
From
fractal9091:
a DragonCon mug and keychain
two DisneyWorld postcards
After we finished opening, I popped the Popeye DVD into the player and we watched that while eating supper, then I called my mom, who came and visited a bit. R. was immersed in his new daylily guide, and the "boys" put together a K'nex basilisk, which was quite an involved project. I passed on the Unitarian candlelight service for young children and am probably too tired for the Episcopal midnight mass (after last year, I thought one or both might be a nice tradition to adopt). I might just read until it's late enough for Santa to fill the stockings and get some sleep.
