I've been keeping the food for the outdoor cats in a large container on the front steps - it's kind of sealed and kind of not. Three or four times it's been opened during the night, and we suspected raccoons. Tonight, though, it was barely even dark and J. opened the door, and there they were, two adolescent-sized raccoons, doing their best to open the container. Each of our cats took a turn looking through the door at them, from not more than three feet away. J. found one of D's old nerf toys (a mace) and took it outside to scare them off - a third was near the front gate - and away they went. Theo, the feral male, had been waiting patiently for them to go. He'd been eating on the front porch not more than 5 minutes before they appeared, and there he was again 5 minutes after they were gone.
For dinner, we semi-spontaneously went out for Thai food with our Magic-playing friend D. and his wife A., who had just gotten off work. She'd accompanied a bunch of teens to the Ducks game and reported that it really was very, very loud.
