Three consequential developments

eve_prime(1) I received notice that my NIH proposal was "not discussed" this time, meaning it ranked in the bottom half of proposals. Bah! This is the one they almost funded last year, retooled to respond to anything they may not have liked about it. We'll get the actual review in a few weeks. The prospect of spending several months (or longer) without funding, next fall and beyond, is becoming ever more likely.
(2) I met with another youth symphony board member today, our third such meeting over the course of the last year or so, and we finished our draft revisions for the bylaws. Whew! I've been working on this for two and a half years now.
(3) R. has bought a house! It will still take 4-6 weeks to finalize. Last week he was thinking of getting a condo in the immediate neighborhood, but now he has a house in Springfield! It's on the same hill where many of my high school friends lived. From what I can see online, it looks like a fine house. He was pretty excited to tell me about it, and he took D. over there this afternoon to take a look. It has a fireplace, a fairly big yard with some nice established plants, and a bit of a view. He'll need a tenant to live in the second bedroom.
