Tonight was the very last school open house I may ever attend. I had a pretty good time socially. I'd learned from my neighbor M. that his son would be performing in a small string ensemble, starting at 6, so this time I went at 6 instead of 7 when the classroom visits begin. I sat with M. and chatted for quite some time, enjoying the music. At one point, an older fellow set a chair near M's son to listen, and I recognized him as the honors English teacher, so M. was impressed and took several photos.

I chatted a bit with the lit teacher, and the Japanese teacher, and I overheard that one of D's friends was so thrilled with his Japan trip last summer that he's decided to major in the Japanese language in college. I saw T. and gave her a hug, and I found the dad of D's preschool best friend and sat with him to learn about the child development class (his daughter is now in her second year of teaching in Harlem!); the symphony member whose clarinet and bassoon and oboe and piano concert I attended a few weeks ago was there as well, but he hasn't seen me at his concert.

Then I went to chat with the band teacher (another hug) and talked with him about their Seattle trip this spring, which D. is welcome to go on. I said that D. wouldn't be at pep band this week until 6:45 pm (rather than 6 pm), and he said that would be just fine! (D. was very pleased!) I also learned that winter pep band is just 4 of the basketball games, not all 8 on the schedule. (D. was even more pleased!)

Then I came home and D. actually asked me about the open house, rather than me having to ask him for some time to tell him, so that was great too.
