For book club, I'm reading The Crofter and the Laird, which I had previously read maybe 10 years ago. It's really interesting to read about life on Colonsay, an island in the Hebrides, in the late 1960s, but since the author (John McPhee) is still alive, I wish I could find some sort of update.
Today I brought my variegated ficus indoors for the winter. I have to shut the cats in another room while I do it, so they don't realize that it's happened - I don't want them jumping onto the kitchen counter to investigate. Even so, Sorin thought something was different up there. The ficus loved the summer outdoors - I bet it has more than five times the leaves that it had in the spring. Daily watering probably makes all the difference.
