Local stores stopped carrying Sorin's favorite cat food, so I started ordering from Chewy.com, which works very well, except that the bag delivered last week had a 2" rip in it, which the ants found. I immediately put it outside the front door, pending a decision about what to do with the ant-infested kibble. That is, it's very high-quality food, except for the ant-flavoring...
The results have been interesting. One night I opened the front door to find a raccoon staring at me; in the daytime an adolescent black cat is the most frequent visitor. Then tonight while walking down the driveway from J's house I heard a surprisingly loud gobbling sound and discovered a possum who didn't mind the porch-light. I bet if I turned the light back off, the raccoon would return, but that's not the safest outcome for the neighbor-cats.
