It's nice to have dinner with just the three of us - I much prefer it to the bigger gatherings we used to have at my mom's. D. spent a couple of hours in the afternoon at his dad's, essentially baby-sitting R's girlfriend's grandsons, and while he was gone I worked on the roast turkey breast and the apple pie. Pie is so time-consuming when you make it all from scratch. Just peeling, coring, and mincing the apples takes me half an hour. I don't know how my grandma could make a pie every day while she was also school-teaching and raising two kids, I really don't.
Anyway, we had dinner at 5 p.m.: roast turkey, mashed potatoes, tiny biscuits, some brussels sprouts for me, some cranberry jelly for J, and two flavors of Martinelli's. Then we watched Captain America: Civil War, which none of us had seen, not even D. Then we ate some of the pie.
Since then, we've been relaxing. D's playing League of Legends, somehow being partnered with exceptionally high level players. J's playing Endless Legend, which has really restful and delightful background music, and I've been lying on J's couch, reading and taking notes, and enjoying that music.
