We are still all in shock about the election. It's tempting to tune out and retreat into personal life, but the very fact that I can to some extent do that while so many others cannot is energizing me to "do something" about it. I hope I can come up with some constructive ways to channel that.

I take some comfort from hearing that Hillary did even better than the polls predicted on my side of the country; at least we're not alone. There were rallies and protest marches here locally, with the police escorting the protesters. J. and I had dinner downtown - the restaurant was subdued, but there were picketers and loud singers of folk songs on the corners.

Meanwhile, tomorrow (in addition to being my birthday) is our annual health insurance enrollment deadline, and this year we're required to have a PCP. Mine stopped practicing years ago, and although I signed D. up for a replacement in his clinic, I didn't sign myself up at the same time, and now they're full. I called around, though, and found a nurse-practitioner nearby who has openings. What a nuisance.
