Today D. and his teacher finally finished his audition recordings for All State, a process that's lasted for months. They selected the best recordings for each of the four tracks, recorded over an arduous three weeks of lessons, and the next step is for me to get them onto a CD so his teacher can submit them.
As we're driving home, I check with D. to confirm that he wants to submit them only to All State, which is local, and not also to All Northwest, which is in the Seattle area. He says right, he doesn't want to go to All Northwest... but maybe he doesn't want to go to All State either, because it's a pain having to make up the homework. I point out that it's normally on a holiday weekend, which gives him Sunday after 3 p.m. and all of Monday to do the homework. I think things are settled.
We get home, and I look up the dates, and go to let him know that yes, that Monday is MLK Day. Then he realizes, that means the All State concert date, the Sunday, is his girlfriend's birthday. So now he won't do it at all.
I am so bummed!
