Heat wave

Today was unseasonably warm, the first day of a mini-heat wave. It reached 92 at least, and the real problem was the humidity -- on the rare days it's hot in June, it's also muggy because it's still spring. J. said it was too much like summer in the South. Fortunately, by Tuesday or Wednesday it'll be back in the 70s.

I was fine most of the day, except that I took a fancy to check out the faculty union members' party in our neighborhood park, so we walked down there and back in the heat of the day. None of my faculty friends were there anyway. Good thing I carried a water bottle with me. Other than that, I got a fair amount of work done in the afternoon, and earlier got to listen to D's increasingly fine performance of his Youth Symphony audition piece..

We got Thai food for dinner, and then J. and I read outside until mosquitos struck, during the vivid sunset. Then I went on a walk after dark and picked up some raspberries at the store. Yay, raspberries.

I did pretty well for most of the day in tuning out the bad thing that had happened. We have this really huge and fancy rose bush called "Apple Blossom" that puts on a great show in time for graduation, but today our neighbor had to whack it down in anticipation of plumbing work to fix a big leak. I think they went overboard and it may never recover, but she's more optimistic.

Also, it was my dad's birthday, and I miss him.
