In which D. is blessedly sensible

Last week D. decided he'd probably better not do track after all. What a relief! He's already busy from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. or later, with not more than an hour or so in there for recreation, and adding two hours of track practice daily plus all of those track meets was going to become a significant problem. He realized this on his own, and was actually surprised that I was happy about it.
I suggested he come up with some other way to do the things he had hoped track would do for him, and he suggested working out at the YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. It's right across the street from his bus stop home. Easily done, so I signed him up for a membership and today we went back to arrange for a locker rental. It turns out one of his best friends at school also has a Y membership and wants to work out with him! David is thrilled, or as he kept telling his friend, "This is sick!" Now it's much more likely that he'll stick with it.
Of course, today he came home exhausted, especially with that ridiculous weekend, and he took a three-hour nap this evening. History homework will take place during lunch tomorrow, I am assured.
