eve_primeD’s birthday coincided with the beginning of another heat wave – 100 degrees today, and 106 forecast for tomorrow. (He is _not_ going to like wearing that fencing jacket!) Accordingly, he spent nearly the whole day inside, as did most of the rest of us. I gave him one gift at the start of the day, a 3DS game (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate). He had fun setting up his characters – he decided to play as “Elvis,” with our silver tabby Sorin as his feline companion. Then he went to his dad’s for the afternoon and played Skyrim a while, before they went out for their usual Wednesday dinner of teriyaki chicken at our neighborhood Hawaiian restaurant.
After coming back home, he opened gifts from me (and the cats): a box of Magic Origins booster packs, a particular useful Magic card (the newest Liliana), a book about Super Mario Bros. music, some sheets, and a Grumpy Cat deck box. J. gave him a mono-black Magic Commander deck and said he would pay his way to one of two upcoming Magic tournaments. I made an apple pie, and we ate a bunch of that (although it was warm enough that the candles melted in it a bit, but it wasn’t noticeable).
D. opened about a quarter of the booster packs in his box and got two valuable planeswalkers. Then he built a really strong mono-black Commander deck, using about half of the cards in the pre-constructed one J. had just given him, the new Liliana, and a bunch of cards he already had, so he’s excited about that too!
