Sometimes things happen.

Today was frustrating -- I woke with more of the a.m. dehydrated stuffiness and headache than usual, and drinking a whole lot of water didn't fix it. I was looking forward to Symphony in the Park, so I decided I'd skip the museum event with Barry Lopez speaking (one of my favorites and I haven't seen him before, though I think he lives just up the McKenzie River somewhere), because heading out to the museum event would subject me to today's one-day heat wave and the related brightness. If I'd done that, I'd have felt worse for sure.
Instead I napped for an hour. That didn't fix it either, and then I had a full-blown migraine and felt a bit motion sick too. Eventually I just gave up.
So we sat outside on J's lawn and read. I read the entire second novel by Karen Lord, and he read part of the first of the "Mark" books in the Vorkosigan saga. And it was really lovely, out there with the quiet trickle of the water feature, and the setting sun, and the swifts darting about overhead. And I thought, if I hadn't had this concert plan, I'd be entirely happy right now.
