eve_primeThe last birthday party I remember having was back in about 1990, at work, when my friend Holly made a quiche since I don’t eat sugar. This week, though, since I’ve thrown him several birthday parties, J. offered to host one for me! I gave it some thought and decided it would be fun to play Magic, like we’ve done at the birthday parties for both J. and D. the last few years. It was pretty last-minute, though! We invited people on Thursday, for a party today. We were really lucky in that we got a group of 8, the optimal number for a Magic draft, including the very people I had most hoped could be there. (Not counting our friend who just moved out of state, and another couple who didn’t see the invitation until too late.)
Anyway! We had me and J. and D, and we had my friend C. and her son (D’s friend) S, and our friend the game designer T, and our local game store owner B. and his wife Z, whom I think is just delightful. (Not the same Z. as my friend at work.) T. was about an hour late, and by then Z. had left for an hour for a dance rehearsal, so we started a multi-player game while we waited for Z’s return. Then we did our Magic draft – I had red-white deck, splashing black. I actually managed to win a game this time. Each match is two out of three, and I came fairly close in the other two games as well. (I also lost to J. in the first round, and then was paired with T. in the last round but he’d already gone home.)
J. bought me a beautiful cake and some flowers. *beaming smile* C. brought raw vegetables, mostly carrots and celeriac, and her specialty dip. There were chips and beverages, and I made some wheat bread that finished baking partway through the event, so it was warm and fresh.
It was altogether the nicest birthday party I can remember having!
