Dinner at the Bier Stein

Today for dinner we tried out the Bier Stein, as R. had said good things about it, the menu looked tasty, and it was mentioned in this month’s AAA magazine, in the article on Oregon ciders. My meal was indeed tasty – I had the dip sandwich, with roast beef, caramelized onions, and swiss cheese on grilled ciabatta, with au jus, a dill pickle, and a cup of bier cheese soup. J. (who had eaten a large lunch) tried the seasonal dessert special, the huckleberry almond galette, with mascarpone. He’d have preferred it a bit sweeter, and the same for his “semi-sweet” Atlas apple cider. (He’d previously really liked the Atlas pom cherry apple cider.) My main issue with the place was the noise level – they were playing stuff like Blue Öyster Cult and Boston, really loud, and the crowd of people were having to talk loudly to communicate over it. R. says the music was even louder when they first opened, before they installed a bunch of baffling. I wonder why they don’t just turn it down.
Anyway. After that, we worked on our jack-o-lanterns. D. carved a Grumpy Cat, and I attempted to carve Kagome from Inuyasha, but they tell me it looks more like Shippo, the friendly fox demon boy from the same show. Could be. J. cleaned his out and made a plan but hasn’t started carving yet.
