An exciting milestone!

eve_primeA couple weeks ago, we learned that a 5' tall woman, Kacy Catanzaro, became the first woman ever, in the five? year history of the show, to make it through the sixth and final obstacle in the qualifying round, the 14' “warped wall.” Wow! We didn’t see it when they originally showed it; we learned about it in the following episode, but it was so impressive! Many, many men who are much taller than she have failed at the warped wall.
Tonight was the city finals for Dallas, the city where Kacy had qualified, so we were watching to see how well she could do. And there she was, going up the warped wall again, on her first try! Then came the next obstacle, the salmon ladder – an upper body strength challenge – but she made it to the top of that as well! Then she had to get across another upper body challenge, this one with a huge leap between two moving bars in the middle... and she did that too! Then, the next obstacle seemed insurmountable, because it was a series of vertical poles, where the person has to climb from one to the next, and at one point there’s a 5' gap between two poles. How on earth could she do this, when she’s only 5' tall? She leaped! She leaped from one to the next, and caught that next pole, and hung on, and didn’t slide off into the water like everybody else who’d tried to do the leap. And then she just zipped up the spider climb, and she had COMPLETED the course!!! Out of 30 competitors, there were only six, I think, who completed it, and the 5' tall woman was one of them!
D. made an excellent point. Nobody has ever completed the final course, Mt. Midoriyama, in the United States. (Two have done it in Japan, I think.) So the tag line for the show is, “Who will be the first American Ninja Warrior?” D. commented, what if Kacy makes it up there first, and becomes the first American Ninja Warrior? Then instead of speculating about who will become “the first female American Ninja Warrior,” they’ll have to speculate about who will become “the first male American Ninja Warrior”! And that would be fantastic.
