Birthday, 2009

I woke early, and sick, though it's unlikely to be the H1N1, as I have no 'flu symptoms per se. I went out to the livingroom and opened my birthday presents, ate breakfast, then came back to bed and slept for three hours. Within five minutes of waking, my phone was ringing - it was R, calling to see if I still wanted to go out to lunch. No, it didn't seem like a very good idea, but I still wanted a tasty burger for lunch, so R. brought some home from Turtles, and we watched two episodes of Arrested Development.
R. returned to work, and I rested on the bed and read NYT articles and more about Johnson and Boswell's adventures in Skye. After picking up D. from chess club, I played three rounds of Castle Fight with
fractal9091 (which lasted under 40 minutes total), then ordered Thai food from Sweet Basil. We ate lots of Thai food: deep-fried calamari, grilled beef salad with lime, pad phet gai with chicken, spicy sweet basil with chicken, and pa nang curry with beef. Then D. and I watched two astronomy shows while R. napped on the other couch.
I feel better now than earlier, but still not great. All the cheery greetings on Facebook and elsewhere have been very helpful! Now I'm just hanging out online and also watching Middlemarch on my laptop. Happy birthday!
Gifts: My favorite Maalouf novel, Balthasar's Odyssey, from B; a fancy glass globe/hummingbird feeder from D; Mistborn from
fractal9091; the Middlemarch DVD from
coleoptera; roses and chocolates from my mom (and her caregiver); and oodles from R: three Robin McKinley books that I'd only read from the library, a Star Trek calendar, and DVDs of the most recent Sense and Sensibility, which I adore, Wild China, and Avonlea season 2 (with Gus Pike!).
