Mom-drama

My attempt to participate in a web seminar today was cut short when a stranger called to say my mom was disoriented and needed help with her car. I called AAA and got her membership reinstated and road service on the way, then D. and I rushed down there to keep her company and take care of the details.

There are certainly worse ways to spend an hour than sitting on the shaded bench outside Sundance Natural Foods, enjoying the warm weather and breeze and birds, watching the customers come and go. One guy appeared three times - he had dyed peacock feathers attached to his backpack and hippie-bare feet. Another guy had no hands but handled his grocery bag adeptly with a hook. A teenage girl greeted my mom by name and showed concern, but wasn't recognized. Eventually the AAA guy appeared, diagnosed a battery failure, and replaced it. It was good that the car problem wasn't my mom's fault, and now she's got AAA coverage again.
