I'm tickled to think that even if the election doesn't go the way I want, we'd be one 72- to 76-year-old heartbeat away from having a female president. She's an NRA member who used to get up at 3 a.m. in high school to go moose hunting, but still.

Edit: I guess it means that McCain is awfully confident that the more traditional Republicans are going to turn out to vote for him no matter what, so he thinks he can court the center by picking a woman, but from the little I've read about her, she seems even more capricious in her governing style than he does, which to me is more disturbing than any of their policy positions.

Oh, um, happy birthday, Sen. McCain.
