B. arrived 3 hours earlier than expected and tactfully pretended not to notice that I was making him an apple pie. R. came home early (all three of them are sick with colds), and we tried to order Indian food but got no answer (have they gone out of business?), but we were perfectly happy with Thai from Chao Pra Ya instead. Our Internet failed inexplicably, but after I'd fiddled with it for half an hour I called Comcast, and a guy told me what to do, and it worked! (Disconnect modem from power, then disconnect router from power, then count 10 seconds, then plug in the modem, then the router, in that order.) Gifts and cake for B, who left for home (Portland) at D's bedtime. I didn't even bother trying to take a birthday picture of him, but if you haven't seen him, there's one here. Add a beard.

I'm still experiencing a lot of disappointment about the NSF decision, but my spirits lifted a bit when I got my winter term grades. Tomorrow's the day I'm going to do all the work that I need to do before I get to enjoy spring break. Still haven't finished all my paperwork for human subjects; still haven't bugged PY for his files for our paper. This week I need to rewrite my essay about yellowjackets, too, and I'm really not ready to think about it yet!

I think I'll read a few more chapters of The Will of the Empress, the latest Tamora Pierce book in the series I've been reading. And maybe [livejournal.com profile] fractal9091 will describe the Inuyasha plots while he watches tonight's episodes.
