Today I finally got to meet UO philosophy professor Mark Johnson. I have four of his books, and one of them was a major inspiration to me in thinking out the really big project that I sure hope some day to get back to. I went to a talk he did, last year, and today I attended the first session of his graduate seminar on philosophy and cognitive neuroscience. This served several good purposes: I got to experience one of his classes, I acquired an interesting reading list, I got to hear a bit about his next book and a bit about George Lakoff's, and I heard about a new journal. During the class I was tempted to sign up for it, but whenever I thought about the assignments I realized that it would be much more practical just to attend the seminar and do the readings. Then within half an hour of the class ending, my head cleared a bit more and I realized that I don't have time to attend the seminar and do the readings either. This at least gave me an excuse to stop by his office, introduce myself, and ask if he'll be teaching something similar in the future. He will, about two years from now. Okay.

I made some progress on the proposal today, and we realized we need to send it to NIDA instead of NCI. Meanwhile, everyone in Eugene seems poised for a major snowfall by morning. I hope it's either enough to keep all the schools open or enough to close everything, because it would be a nuisance to have D's school closed but the UO up and running.
