eve_prime | Two ends of the mountain-climbing continuum, on film (Reply)

While the others were at Saturday Market, I got to see The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain, sweet and humorous, but with a mountain (Ffynnon Garw) only 984 feet tall, and a pleasant stroll there from the village, attainable even by small children. Then this evening we all watched a rather harrowing semi-documentary, Touching the Void, about two climbers who met disaster coming back down a 21,000-foot Andean peak (Siula Grande). The former left me with fond thoughts about Wales; the latter, which deals with ethical issues as well as the imponderable strangeness of people wanting to experience such extremity in their lives, will take a while to assimilate.

Today's dinner was from Chao Pra Ya and featured the following:

Tom kha (coconut soup with chicken)

Squid salad

Garlic prawns

Green curry with seafood

Phad kee mao (wide noodles and vegetables)

And some mystery dish that certainly was not pad prik king with beef

Today's events for R. and DH (and D., happily invited along for all of it) were breakfast out, a visit to the nursery, an hour at Saturday Market (where DH bought D. a wild-colored tie-dyed t-shirt with a big swirl), and a post-nap outing to Prince Puckler's ice cream parlor and the adjacent playground. I'm happy that R. is having so much fun and grateful that I don't have to keep up that pace myself.

Time to relax with The Grey King, which involves... a mountain. In Wales.
