Orbital, by Samantha Harvey. This prizewinning book could well be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. It’s the story of 24 hours in the lives of six people living on the International Space Station, in the near future – they are constantly reminded and astonished by how much they love the Earth. I suppose it might not appeal as much to readers who want more action and a stronger plot, but even then, it’s a short book and so lovely! Maybe they would like it too?

Easter

Easter was fun – D&S came over in the afternoon, and we each received a basket of treats filled by the Easter bunny, then we hunted for the 26 plastic eggs he’d hidden in J’s yard. We only found 24 – even J had no idea where the other two were hiding! It was fun getting to chat with S - she was telling me that there's a new store in Tokyo, which she plans to visit, that specializes in One Piece merchandise that's pastel!

Eventually they went home and I started making Easter dinner, then D returned and ate with us. (Our “secular pagan” version of Easter suits me quite well; I’m glad we have no obligation to attend church services, for example.) After we’d wrapped up our conversation, he headed back homewards and I went off on a walk in the opposite direction, and it started to rain, which led to us exchanging rainbow photos.
